There is a widely held view that equipping medical, paramedical and even non-medical students with the knowledge of prefixes, suffixes and root words will greatly increase their overall Grasp of the most basic medical compound terms. In this collection, regardless of the audience's current knowledge level with medical terms, definitions and examples for each of the prefixes, suffixes and root words are given. In order to facilitate the correct pronunciation of terms, even the orthoepy of the words have not been neglected. Therefore, the purpose of writing this collection is to simplify and disambiguate common medical terms by providing a comprehensive understanding of prefixes and suffixes that are the foundation of this linguistic domain. At last, the abbreviations of the common tests of the medical laboratory diagnosis are also noted alongside their full names.
We sincerely hope that this small collection can achieve its ultimate goal of increasing the scientific understanding for medical students.
